Currently the Bash history check defaults to 1 previous command. While there are reasons to restrict it, as a default this is more likely to confuse both creators and students when the check fails for no apparent reason. In active courses I have seen this raised to 10 commonly, but the default should be at least 100 in my estimation.
The reasoning is that whether a student is inexperienced or not, experimentation in the terminal should be encouraged and a very low default will not only cause confusion, but will also foster distrust of the platform in a subtle way.
